Stay Sober SOS is a free recovery support app built for the moments when somebody is struggling right now. A hard craving. Panic or overwhelm. Feeling close to using. Already having used. Or simply needing another person. Instead of making you dig through a directory, SOS can help you figure out what you need and walk with you through the next few minutes.
Opens in your browser. No app-store download or account required.
The first version of Stay Sober SOS was intentionally simple: a toolbox for a rough moment. It gave people craving tools, grounding, breathing, recovery reminders, personal photos, support contacts, crisis resources, and a few ways to slow their mind down long enough to make a different decision.
As it grew, one thing became obvious: when somebody is overwhelmed, a screen full of tools can still be too much. So SOS was rebuilt around guided support. The app can now help someone move through a moment step by step instead of expecting them to know which tool to choose first.
The goal never changed. Make the next few minutes easier to get through, and make the next decision a little easier to make.
Guided support that can help create distance from what's happening around you, connect with somebody, regulate the moment, and reassess what you need next.
Gentle breathing, grounding, sensory resets, and a way to move through the moment without forcing you to stay in a tool that isn't helping.
A dedicated path that starts with immediate physical safety and helps point toward the next safer step instead of treating the moment like the app has nothing left to offer.
Quick access to saved support contacts and emergency or crisis help when the situation needs more than an in-app exercise.
SOS can walk through environment, connection, grounding or regulation, distraction, personal reasons, and reassessment without dumping everything on one screen.
Today's Anchor, an Emergency Kit with personal photos, a favorite tool, support contacts, and other reminders can make the app feel like yours instead of a generic resource page.
Saved SOS contacts and personal recovery information are kept on your device. There is no SOS account to create and no subscription required to use the tool.
After SOS has loaded, its core app shell and tools are designed to remain available when your connection is weak or unavailable.
The next major upgrade is focused on making Stay Sober SOS useful to more people, not just adding more buttons. Work is underway on additional languages, country-specific recovery and crisis resources, stronger screen-reader support, larger-text and high-contrast usability, reduced-motion support, and accessibility options for people who may not be able to see or use the app the same way everyone else does.
Those international resources and translations are being built and reviewed before they are published. We would rather take the extra time to verify high-risk information than put something live just because it looks finished.
You do not need an app store. Open the actual SOS app first, then add that page to your Home Screen so the icon opens SOS directly.
With SOS open in Safari, tap the Share button, scroll down, and choose "Add to Home Screen."
With SOS open in Chrome, tap the three-dot menu and choose "Add to Home screen" or "Install app."
Once installed, it sits on your phone like an app and opens directly into Stay Sober SOS.
Stay Sober Coffee is connected to recovery because recovery is part of why this company exists. Coffee is our craft and our business. Stay Sober SOS is another way we can put something useful back into the community.
We are not trying to turn a hard moment into an ad, a paywall, or a sales pitch. SOS is there to help someone get through the next few minutes and reach real human or professional support when that's what they need.
In the U.S., if you are in immediate danger, call 911. If you are thinking about suicide or need immediate crisis support, call or text 988.
