I am living proof that change is possible. But it did not happen overnight, and it certainly did not happen by accident. It took a lot of raw discipline.

My path here was forged through darkness. For years, I lost myself to severe alcohol and drug abuse. The addiction stripped away everything, my family, my home, any sense of who I was. Along the way, I lost close friends too, people I loved who never made it out.

My rock bottom came the night I nearly didn't survive it. That was the moment I finally became willing to get help. I checked into treatment, then moved back across the country to be near my family and start rehab close to my support system. From there came halfway houses, and the slow, painstaking work of rebuilding myself from scratch.

During the worst of it, my own absence cost me the people who mattered most. Today, I am back with my wife and my five-year-old son. The friends I lost no longer hold me down; instead, I carry them as my daily motivation to be better, stay sober, and encourage anyone else I can. I want to help other families keep their loved ones just a little longer.
